Introduction
My name is Lorna Audley and I am an Open University student studying a BSc in Geology. This website is looks at a Geo-problem that the world is currently experiencing and possible solutions if any. You will find pages that cover the Geo-problem, the Path to Sustainability and where to look for further reading.
Overview
This website will be looking at the geo-problem that is fossil fuel extraction and energy production. How much of our global energy is produced this way and from what sources, why this is a problem and long term sustainability and also looking at the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals and how this all fits together. In particularly Goal 7 Energy from the UN and how renewable energy produced from geothermal energy sources can help. You will find separate pages for the geo-problem, the path to sustainability and further reading with links to more materials should you wish to expand your knowledge further. Throughout the site there are figures and images with captions to help bring the information home also. One of the modern worlds largest geo-problems is Energy production and how it is produced, mainly from fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal.
Our world is changing at an unprecedented rate towards a higher mean global temp, though a higher global mean temp has been experienced before in the earths history but on these occasions the increase is at a much slower pace, which gives the fauna and flora time to make adaptions or die out. With each passing year we see more and more effects of the climate change dur to us burning fossil fuels for energy production. World governments with scientists input agreed that we needed to stop the global mean temp from increasing by 1.5C as a point where repairing the damage would not be possible. This is going to require a big shift in how we get our energy, powering our industries and lives along with many other changes. We need to have open minds and be accepting of a number of years of chaos while we make changes.
